Meet The Team
Maverick Water Polo was founded in 2014. As the premier youth club in the greater Philadelphia area, Maverick Water Polo offers training and coaching, from beginner to elite level athletes, providing opportunities for players to develop their skills and improve their conditioning throughout the year. Stressing fundamentals and sportsmanship, our experienced and approachable staff strives to inspire and educate players both in and out of the pool.
Based on the Main Line, Maverick Water Polo attracts athletes from Delaware, Montgomery and Philadelphia counties and the surrounding areas. Practice locations include the Haverford School in Haverford, PA and Germantown Academy in Ft Washington, PA.
Kevin Van Such
Kevin is the Founder and Director of Maverick Water Polo. He also serves as Head Coach of the Haverford School, where he coaches both the high school and middle school water polo teams. After playing four years at Millersville Univeristy, Kevin started coaching at Haverford in 2008 helping Haverford win Inter-Ac league titles in 2008 and 2009. He took over as head coach at Haverford in 2012 and led Haverford to the Inter Ac title in 2018. Kevin has coached multiple clubs and clinics throughout the years, including La Salle University 2010-2011 and Philly Select in 2013.
Chris has been playing and coaching competitive water polo for over 25 years. He played for Wilson High School, serving as captain and winning a state championship. In college, he played Bucknell University, culminating in an NCAA Top Ten ranking. He has played for numerous zone teams and clubs throughout his career. Chris joined the Haverford School coaching staff in 2013 as an assistant. He helped launch Maverick Water Polo, and has coached with the club since its founding in 2014.
Mike is an alumnus of Wissahickon High School where he played water polo and was an integral part of a team that made the state tournament all four years, including a fourth place finish his senior year. He also swam while at Wissahickon. Koziol attended DePaul University in Chicago, Illinois. While at DePaul, he coached a swim team and founded the water polo program at the High Ridge YMCA. Under Koziol's guidance, the water polo program tripled in size during his three years of coaching. After graduating from DePaul, Mike took over the program at Germantown Academy and currently serves as Head Coach. In addition to coaching at GA, Mike is still an active masters water polo player and has coached at the club level with Trojan Aquatics, NXT, and Philly Select prior to joining Maverick in 2016.
Kristen Van Such
Kristen has coached with Maverick since its inception in 2014. She played four years at the University of Notre Dame, which placed second in the National Collegiate Club Championships during her senior year. Over the past five years, Kristen has helped coach various clinics and programs in the Greater Philadelphia area. She enjoys working with new and experienced water polo players, especially on defensive skills!
Chadd has been playing and coaching water polo for over 25 years. He played at Germantown Academy and with the YAA (now Greater Philadelphia) club and Annapolis club in high school. In college, Chadd played water polo and swam for four years at Johns Hopkins University, captaining both teams his senior year. He began coaching water polo in 1996 and has been an assistant at Villanova University and Wissahickon High School and a head coach at YAA and Trojan Aquatics. Chadd joined Maverick in 2018.
